About On the Way!

Overview

The On the Way Tour is an initiative designed to support and uplift Black-owned farms and Black-led growing spaces in the Northeast. This tour brings together current and aspiring farmers to collaborate on meaningful projects that enhance farm operations and promote sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices.

Goals and Mission

  • Support Black Farmers: Provide hands-on assistance to Black-owned farms, addressing specific needs and challenges.
  • Foster Community: Build connections and strengthen community ties among Black farmers across state lines.
  • Promote Sustainability: Implement and share sustainable and regenerative farming techniques to ensure long-term farm viability.

  • Knowledge Exchange: Learn and share best practices in sustainable agriculture.
  • Community Building: Connect with other Black farmers and create a supportive network.

Types of Projects

  • Irrigation Installation: Set up efficient irrigation systems to improve water management.
  • High Tunnel Construction: Build high tunnels to extend the growing season and protect crops.
  • Field Mulching: Apply mulch to fields to conserve moisture, reduce weeds, and enhance soil health.
  • Custom Projects: Tailor projects to meet the specific needs of your farm

Safety and Community Guidelines

  • Zero Tolerance for Violence: Safety is a top priority, with strict policies against violence and threats.
  • Allergy Notice: Severe or airborne allergies cannot be accommodated. Vegetarian meal options will be available.
  • Documentation: The tour will be documented by a photographer/videographer. Participants must sign a release form, with options to withhold names and identifying information if preferred.
