A Day of Land, Learning & Collective Work

This fall, Northeast Farmers of Color (NEFOC) is partnering with Kingston Land Trust’s Land In Black Hands (LIBH) project for a full-day community workday in Kingston, NY.

Through NEFOC’s On The Way (OTW) Farm Tour, we will bring together aspiring and experienced Black farmers and land stewards for a day of hands-on learning, skill-sharing, relationship-building, and collective work in support of LIBH.

Participants will work alongside skilled project leads to complete hands-on land and farm infrastructure projects while building practical skills that can be carried back to their own farms, growing spaces, and communities.

About Land In Black Hands

Land In Black Hands (LIBH) is a 54-acre land project rooted in the belief that land can be a place of healing, cultural connection, food sovereignty, and collective possibility.

Located in the Kingston/Ulster County area, LIBH is creating space for Black people and communities to reconnect with land—not simply as property, but as a source of knowledge, nourishment, creativity, wellness, and power.

It is a place to learn, create, build relationships, and imagine new models for how communities can collectively steward land.

About On The Way

The On The Way (OTW) Farm Tour is an initiative of NEFOC’s Black Land Stewardship Program dedicated to strengthening Black farming communities across the Northeast.

OTW brings Black farmers and land stewards together through hands-on projects, shared learning, and collective care.

For this Community Workday, we welcome aspiring and experienced farmers and land stewards interested in building skills, working collectively, and supporting the continued development of LIBH.

Logistics & Participant Support

Travel Support

Travel stipends are available upon request to help reduce transportation barriers.
Participants receiving a travel stipend by direct deposit will be required to submit a W-9 and invoice.
When applicable, travel support may also be provided in the form of a prepaid Visa card.

Meals

A light breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be provided on Saturday, October 10.
Participants arriving on Friday are responsible for their own meals that day.
Please share any dietary needs or restrictions during registration.

Camping & Overnight Stay

Participants traveling from outside the area are welcome to arrive on Friday, October 9 and camp onsite.
Camping space will be provided, but participants should plan to bring their own camping gear and personal supplies.
Meals will not be provided on Friday.

Who Should Participate?

This opportunity is intended for Black aspiring and experienced farmers and land stewards who want to:

Learn practical land and farm infrastructure skills
Support Black-led land stewardship
Connect with other farmers and land stewards
Share knowledge and experience
Contribute hands-on work to LIBH

Participation Details

Approximately 20 participants will be accepted to ensure everyone has a meaningful, hands-on experience.
Participants must be 18 years or older. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate minors ages 17 and younger for this workday.
Participants should be prepared for a full day of outdoor, hands-on work and collaborative learning.
No professional construction experience is required. Our goal is to create a space where people can contribute, learn new skills, and work together in support of Black land stewardship.
